The Union Cabinet approves setting up the 8th Central Pay Commission.
Terms of reference approved and notified. Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai chairs the Commission, which has 18 months to report.
The Commission takes views from employee unions, ministries and states. No fitment factor has been announced.
Report due. The government then decides what to accept and from which date.
Revised basic pay is your current basic pay multiplied by the fitment factor. Under the 7th Pay Commission the result was then placed in the new pay matrix at the same or the next higher step, so your real figure may be a little higher.
DA is set to zero in the revised column, because it is folded into the new basic pay. HRA is a share of basic pay that depends on your city class and on the DA rate, so it falls back to its starting rate after revision.
It is the number your current basic pay is multiplied by to get your new basic pay. The 7th Pay Commission used 2.57, which took the minimum basic pay from ₹7,000 to ₹18,000.
It has not been decided. As of 20 October 2026, the Commission has not made its recommendation. Most estimates fall between 1.92 and 2.86, and employee unions have asked for more. Pick any factor in the calculator, or type your own.
The report is due around May 2027, 18 months after the Commission was set up. Past commissions took effect from 1 January of the year their term began, so 1 January 2026 is widely expected, with arrears from that date. The government has not confirmed this.
When new pay scales start, the DA built up so far is folded into the new basic pay through the fitment factor. DA then starts again from 0% and rises with inflation every January and July.
Today: 30%, 20% or 10% of basic pay for X, Y and Z cities, because DA is above 50%. After revision: 24%, 16% or 8%, the rates that applied when DA was last reset to zero. The 8th Pay Commission may set different rates.
Starting from today’s minimum of ₹18,000: ₹34,560 at 1.92, ₹41,040 at 2.28 and ₹51,480 at 2.86.
